Francesca Galliani
Biography
Francesca Galliani was born in Italy and moved to the United States of America in 1982.
Even though her traditional roots are Italian, Francesca has absorbed much of the culture of America and New York - where she is based - as her own due to spending a significant amount of time living there. This cultural realization has deeply influenced her work.
A student at the Corcoran School or Art in Washington D.C, Francesca had the fortune of studying everything from photography to painting, graphic design to body figure and colour theory to three dimensional design. Such a significant amount of knowledge gave her a strong foundation and encouraged Francesca to work in mixed media.
Galliani’s media of choice resonate in photography, painting and elements of collage. She writes words and phrases to deepen the intimacy already created by a certain intensity of the subjects she has chosen, thus eliminating any existing distance between spectator and art work.
Her numerous solo shows have been met with the highest of praise, and her work has been exhibited alongside the work of photographers such as Helmut Newton, Robert Mapplethorpe, Pierre et Gilles, Bettina Rhemis and David LaChapelle.
As well as being a major participant in the international fine art world, Galliani’s work has been embraced by the high end fashion world, with her photography appearing in internationally acclaimed magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Velvet, Vogue, Detour, XL, Out and Nerve.
Galliani has exhibited extensively throughout the international fine art world, including New York City, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Venice, Genoa, Rome, Sydney and Hamburg.
In 2011, Francesca had a very successful solo exhibition in New York and was chosen by one of the members of the Eastman Kodak foundation to be part of their collection.
The curator for the Manage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia visited Francesca’s studio and took thirty four pieces of her work to exhibit later in the year.
Galliani’s art is much sought after and has been bought by important international art collectors. She now lives and works in New York City.
