Alison Coulthurst’s art is an extension of her non-conformist outlook on life.
The technique of sgraffito (scratching at multiple layers of paint) gives her work a sculptural quality teamed with potent African and Australian influences. One rather bold image that runs through most pieces is Alison's trademark, sanguine coloured lips, added as a final touch of detail. It is as though each painting has been sealed with a final "Red Kiss".
Alison has participated in a number of exciting initiatives such as a solo exhibition held at Australian Fashion Week and a collaborative art project for Nelson Mandela.
“Embrace Your Journey” is showing from 13 May to 15 June 2009
