Showcase Antiques Art and Frames will be exhibiting various well known Syrian artists such as Houmam Al Sayed, Sabhan Adam, Issa Kazah and Neamat Badawi.
Houmam Al Sayed
Having participated in a number of exhibitions and workshops, Houmam Al Sayed’s works feature oil paintings depicting colourful figures in many shapes and forms. Further to Houmam’s successful sale at Christie’s in April, Showcase will feature his paintings as well as his bronze sculptures and ink drawings. Private collectors worldwide have sought after Houmam Al Sayed’s art works, many of which come from Lebanon, Spain, France, United Kingdom, United States and Italy.
Sabhan Adam
Self-taught artist Sabhan Adam depicts expressionistic distortions of the human form in this large and diverse selection of mixed media works on canvas. His subjects seem to live in a place that tears the watcher out of complacency into an uncomfortable plane of existence, where any reference to beauty depends on your level of discomfiture. His polemic is human and generalized rather than strictly local, making him a truly unique artist in the Arab world right now. Sabhan Adam will be represented at the 2011 Venice Biennale.
Issa Kazah
The inspiration for Issa Kazah’s figurative bronze sculptures stem from the stories of war and breaking news that surround him; inevitably leaving a trace in his works. Architecture has influenced the way he builds his artwork (both his father and uncle are architects) as well as primitive art from China, Africa and Arab countries play a big role in the sculptures that he creates.
Neamat Badawi
Neamat Badawi gives his oil-based canvasses added depth and mysticism techniques using eclectic materials such as gold leaf, metal plates and wood. The acclaimed Syrian artist will also be present at this year’s Venice Biennale.
“A Medley of Syrian Art” will be showing at Showcase throughout June, July and August 2011
