Stephan Geisler
"High Tide"

Hightide'84 180 x 180cm

Up-beat and urban are all words that come to mind when confronted with Stephan Geisler’s large, figurative and colourful paintings. There is no room for small-minded thinking and acting. Everything is spacious, broad-minded, generous and inviting. For Stephan, art is an immense source of joy and sensual pleasure. In a brilliant way, connecting figurative with abstract he plays with floral motifs and the viewers‘ perspective.

The artists steers away from using his canvas to depict frustration, anger or fear. He believes our lives are constantly surrounded by these emotions either in reality or through media. Instead, Stephan’s paintings are ideal for escapism with a touch of fantasy aiming to transport us towards a happy moment, which in turn for him becomes a worthwhile achievement.

His sympathetic attitude towards life and immediate positivism strongly influences the viewer. Using moments that occur in our everyday life, Stephan depicts fluid body movements, thoughts and ideas. One of Stephan’s prominent motifs are cows. Beautifully colourful in his distinct style they remind us of Andy Warhol’s iconic  Pink Cow from 1966, and in a celebratory way, the Pop-Art of the 60’s.

With his profound knowledge of art history and contemporary art, Stephan is an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Reichenhall in Bavaria and at the University of Dortmund in Germany.

Stephan exhibits all over Europe, his latest exhibitions being in his home country Germany and also in Denmark.

"High Tide" is showing at Showcase Gallery from October 11th to November 20th 2011
